Book Review Community Service

Community Service FrontTitle: Community Service

Author: Dakota Madison

Genre: Contemporary Romance

Rating: 8/10

As Maggie Mitchell enters her final semester of college, the last thing she wants is a guy in her life, let alone two of them.

Her new lab partner, Sawyer Reed, is still the overconfident and sexy jock that made fun of her in high school. The only thing that has changed is that he now uses a wheelchair, the result of a skiing accident.

Jude Marino is a hot actor who all the girls want and would do anything to get. He works at a local theater where Maggie has been assigned to complete community services hours after rear-ending a police car.

Both Sawyer and Jude want Maggie but only one of them will be able to capture her heart.

Maggie is flabbergasted when she finds out her new labpartner is none other than Sawyer Reed, the guy who used to make fun of her in high school. But instead of the confident jock, Sawyer is a completely different person. He’s humbled, and he’s now confined to a wheelchair after an accident. But while Maggie had a crush on popular guy Sawyer, she finds she likes this new version even more.

But after she’s assigned community service after driving into a police car – one of the stupidest things she’s ever done – another boy starts to take an interest in her. Jude, the star of the local theatre, is gorgeous, and a total bad boy.

When both boys start battling for Maggie’s attentions, she’ll have to choose, but that’s easier said than done.

The writing was okay, nothing spectacular, but it flowed well, and the plot had a high pacing. Maggie as a fun person, but the two stars of this book were really Sawyer and Jude. While I liked Jude – who doesn’t like a bad boy? – Sawyer melted my heart right away.

I admire the author for taking on complicated subjects, like how it must feel like to be stuck in a wheelchair. On the other hand, I would’ve liked to know Sawyer’s feelings, and see the situation from his POV. It would’ve added a new dimension to the book. Maybe a sequel from his POV? I’d definitely read that.
