Paige Donovan is an ambitious college graduate who aspires to reach the top of the corporate ladder. She’s climbing fast when given the promotion of a lifetime at a prestigious fashion magazine in New York City. Her bright future comes to an unexpected halt after news of her father’s death. She inherits his old cabin in the Colorado Rockies, and just when she thinks her luck couldn’t get any worse, she has a car accident in the mountains and awakens in the small, remote community of Black River.

Soon, she’s engulfed in the mystical world of Varulv—wolves descended from 13th century Scandinavia and blessed by Norse gods with the ability to appear human. Paige is desperate to return home, but never expects to fall for her rescuer, Riley Gray, a charming young werewolf from England who offers her an alternate future with his pack.

Now, she must choose between the career she’s always wanted and the love she’s always dreamed.

I wanted to read this book primarily for its cover. You know, all that stuff about “don’t judge a book by its cover”? I end up falling for a pretty cover anyway. Ugh!

Anyway, the book was actually a pretty good read, so I have no regrets. Paige Donovan is an ambitious college graduate who lives for her job, and wants to reach the top. Unfortunately, luck has a way of turning on you. Her perfect life is turned upside down when she finds out her father has passed away.

He’s left her a remote cabin in the middle of nowhere. Paige decides to visit the place, remembering the cabin from her youth. Now she returns, the place is only somewhat familiar to the holiday home she used to know.

Soon after arriving in Black River, she finds out about the Varulv, a local werewolf legend. Digging deeper, she unearths some secrets she never thought she’d find.

This isn’t your typical werewolf story. Paige is an intriguing main character with plenty of personality. There’s lots of lore and background story to the werewolf legend of Varulv. There’s also plenty of romance, and I really liked the love interest, Riley.

A solid read for fans of the genre.
