Book Review Dark Lullaby

darklullaby_facebook_webTitle: Dark Lullaby

Author: Mayra Calvani

Genre: Supernatural/psychological thriller

At a tavern one Friday night, astrophysicist Gabriel Diaz meets a mysterious young woman. Captivated by her beauty as well as her views on good and evil, he spends the next several days with her. After a while, however, he begins to notice a strangeness in her…especially the way she seems to take pleasure in toying with his conscience.

The young woman, Kamilah, invites him to Rize, Turkey, where she claims her family owns a cottage in the woods. In spite of his heavy workload and the disturbing visions and nightmares about his sister’s baby that is due to be born soon, Gabriel agrees to go with her.

But nothing, not even the stunning beauty of the Black Sea, can disguise the horror of her nature…In a place where death dwells and illusion and reality seem as one, Gabriel must now come to terms with his own demons in order to save his sister’s unborn child, and ultimately, his own soul.

Gabriel is out on a date with his ex-girlfriend when he meets a mysterious, beautiful young woman who immediately enchants him. Her name is Kamilah, and he knows nothing about her, yet he falls in love with her.

Kamilah holds a few secrets though, and she isn’t as innocent as she seems. While Gabriel tumbles into a story from a horror novel, he may not be the only one in danger. It seems like Kamilah has plans for the unborn child of his beloved sister.

This book was dark and seductive, and at times, nothing short but terrifying. Kamilah is a worthy opponent, a creature of stories and legends. She’s not a vampire nor a succubus, but something else entirely, and I had to keep on guessing what exactly she was.

Gabriel was an okay character. He didn’t do much for me – it was Kamilah and her actions that truly intrigued me.

If you’re in the mood for a read that may terrify you, and will definitely creep you out, check out Dark Lullaby.
